Forbidden Hawaiian Sound Service (Yoake Records)

Forbidden Hawaiian Sound Service is a Japan-based DJ, selector, and curator known for weaving sounds from around the world into immersive and atmospheric musical journeys.
Drawing from balearic, ambient, jazz, folk, spiritual music, leftfield electronics, and dance music, his selections move fluidly across genres, connecting cultures, eras, and listening environments. Whether performing in radio studios, hotel lounges, restaurants, bars, galleries, or community spaces, he creates site-specific experiences that respond to the character of each setting.
In 2018, he founded Yoake Records in Kyoto, Japan, as a platform for record culture, community building, and international exchange. Through events, listening sessions, and collaborations with artists from Japan and abroad, Yoake Records has become a meeting point for music, art, and local culture.
In 2023, Yoake Records opened a physical store in Komatsu, Ishikawa, offering a carefully curated selection of records, books, and cultural artifacts. The project is currently preparing for its next chapter with a planned relocation to Tokyo.
Alongside his work as a selector, Forbidden Hawaiian Sound Service continues to explore musical traditions through travel, field research, and cultural exchange, building connections between local scenes and global sounds
